The Great Spirit sent a special teacher, “Yamoria”, to the Dene Nation. The teacher travelled and lived among the people, “the Dene.” Yamoria brought laws to protect and guide the people, the animals and the land.
Yamoria is in a state of prayer and meditation, while listening to the sounds of nature and watching the return of the water fowl, to a new birth of the springtime. The spirit of the Eagle is assisting, giving its spiritual power to the drum (to the Dene, to the caretakers and listeners of the drum.) The drum also represents the heartbeat of a nation.
The ribbons represent the five languages of the Dene Nation, as well as the five different colors represent the races of the world. Once these races are equally represented and respected then the circle of unity will be whole and complete.
The sun is bright for the Dene, as their spiritual destiny is great. This is depicted by the meeting of the two rivers.
To this very day, we give thanks and praise to the creator for providing us with these laws and all the things we need from Mother Earth. (by Debassige – Toeg)
